ACTIVITY PLAN

Target Age Group: about 2 years old Date: 19 Dec 2011

Activity: Funky music Group size: 5

Objectives:

To let the children learn about the different sounds from the objects given and enjoy making music.

Materials Required:

Empty Milo or milk tin, empty tissue box, empty plastic bottles filled with uncooked macaroni, wooden or plastic spoons, cardboard tube from paper towel roll or a big sheet of rolled up paper.

Procedures

Introduction:

Tell the children that today they are going to make some music. I will ask them what instruments can make music? I will explain that Trumpet, drums, piano, guitar, Xylophone, etc make beautiful music

Process:

1) I will show them the objects and tell them they can make different sounds.

2) Ask the children to imagine the objects represent various musical instruments. For example the Milo tin is the drum and the wooden or plastic spoon is the stick for beating the drum. then I will beat the tin to let them listen to the sound

3) Next, I will beat the empty tissue box and tell them this is another drum, the sound is different.

4) After that, I will hold the plastic container and ask them to listen while I shake it. Then I will say that this is a shaker.

5) I will hold up the cardboard tube and tell them this is a trumpet and pretend to blow….

6) Give each child an object to play to try out the sound

7) Turn on the background music and say let’s make some funky music

Closure: I will praise them for making wonderful music. I will tell them to keep their toys and hold a plastic bag for them to drop the objects in.

Evaluation: from this activity the children learn the different sounds from the various objects. They use their imagination in their pretend play. This activity also helps to develop their gross motor skills. The calm background music keeps them playing in a relaxing and fun way
